Let me take you off the map. Wilderness, exploration and solo travel are my passions. I offer engaging stories, professional travel expertise, and an insider view of the Americas and US National Parks.
My work has appeared in BBC Magazine, National Geographic, Outside, Boston Globe, and other publications. A former Fulbright fellow and Banff Mountain Grant recipient, I have documented life in some of the most remote corners of Latin America. ABC's Nightline profiled my travels in Panama for Lonely Planet.
After decades of exploring and an ongoing presence abroad, I understand regional issues in all their complexities. I've studied environmental concerns, cultural loss and the impact of travel in depth. I gained extensive on-the-ground experience writing guidebooks; forty-four and counting for Lonely Planet. For Trekking in the Patagonian Andes I hiked Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego mostly solo.
I can offer original, high-quality photography, Spanish translation, or custom trip planning. I also visit university classrooms and teach travel writing at Grub Street in Boston.
